Loach Odd Behavior? I have a Queen Loach (Bengal Loach / Botia Dario) seems to think it is fun to sleep on their backs. She not return, even though I know it does. I can tap the glass, or other fish can brush her and she just lays there, belly up, with his back to the substrate, not moving and barely breathing. When I finally panicked and put my hand into the tank, I will go nowhere near her before she hops and dashes in his cave, just to do the same thing again.
When I noticed this, I thought she was sick, but at night it is the greatest thing I've ever seen. Is this normal behavior or loach is something wrong with it?
(And yes I know loaches are supposed to be kept in groups, I didn't realize they were so hard to find when I told him so I thought Id have him back next week to see if they had more. They had havent in over six months since I'm his)
This is one of the most common quirks Loachy! Many kinds of Botia are infamous for this (including Yoyos). One of my Yoyos doing this for a while, but I think he was tired of scaring me with the net when I thought he was dead. ; ~) Just make sure it has enough coverage to hide in (most Botia prefer tight fitting caves as a PVC pipe) and you should see less.
EDIT: LOL, I suppose you could do, but I doubt that the fish know. ; ~) One of my Yoyos done that ... the never participates in other such antics ... I think it's more a matter of personality of a fish species or kind of bizarre.
