Mealworms can be found in pet stores are better fed and live. I do not recommend feeding these because they are rich in protein which rats should not have too. Like once every two months treatment (only eat a few), they are ends and rats love them. Note however that if the meal worms are not killed by the rat before swallowing, mealworms can eat their way out of their stomachs. Grasshoppers are not yet available in most pet stores and should not be taken outdoors and fed you're not sure what the locusts have eaten or come into contact with.

I stay away from feeding mealworms simply because there are other foods, they are healthier than the love for them. Baby food, yogurt and bananas are my own favorite treats I feed the rats from time to time. A great variety in diet is the best and when you can offer a tasty variety that is healthy, you do your kiddos a favor.
