Cat Staircase

Cat StaircaseMy cat sharpens its claws on the stairs?

In the staircase, stairs, dining room table. I do not really mind the table in the dining room, but it ruins the wood of the stairs and steps. There was a scratching post, but he refuses to use it. How can I make him stop scratching the stairs? We trim his nails from time to time when they brought him to the track. We do not want to declaw him.

Cats do not scratch to sharpen their claws, actually. Cats scratch furniture and carpets not in the marking behavior. There are scent glands in their paws. Here's an excellent article on why cats scratch and how to deal with it.

They also leave "stripes" to let other cats know they were there, leaving visible marks to define their territory.

Cats also use furniture and other items to clean the ducts of their nails. You see little pieces of nail pieces around areas where they scratch.

Cats need a scratching post where they can stretch their whole body. Mainly carpet plush texture is not very attractive and it also gives the idea a kitty than other carpets in the house should be allowed, because the mother "I made a post with a carpet on it" < grin>

Cissal, rugged carpet covered cardboard and chat messages work best. Those who go to the ceiling are great because they give the cat a good place to see their environment and can stretch their body, take a good exercise too. If the post is too short it will not attract a cat! Also, do not remove the nail pieces that relieves an added attraction for the cat to return to the post.

I suggest you get two posts put one in one region and another in a different place. This has worked really well for our kittens. They do not want to maul the furniture or carpets.

Hope this helps,

In fact, I am a piece of carpet and threw it on the floor and my cat has started using it and now it leaves the only coach there is also this product called bitter apple spray on your place and smell them disappear from this place, it is 100% safe for cats, is made in order not to harm them in anyway they can even eat it, it is unpleasant

my cat does the same thing. it wont even use a plate to zero, but u have to pin him, I do not want to lug my cat, but I had to because they were born to
ps. do use spell away, it is middle

Well you can cut the nails on your own. They have a nail clipper for pets. just make sure they do not get too short. Try putting catnip on the scraper to make it more attractive than other evferything. So when it scratches where it is not supposed you could spray him with water and say NO. He will learn.

catnip placed on the scratching post.

Put double sided tape or something else with an unpleasant smell / feel about the areas he should not scratch it. Also put catnip or catnip spray on the scratching post, and make sure the rent every time you see him use it. You can also use something like Softpaws to prevent scratching your stuff, but it is more expensive than training is your cat.

Get another scratch pad / post for him, perhaps with a different smell or shape. Cats can be very picky about where they sharpen their claws.
Spray with water spray or a loud clap your hands when you see a scratch on the stairs. Do not hurt him, though a little water or loud noise will do him no harm.
