Prepare your pets for Guy Fawkes

For pet owners, Guy Fawkes can be an anxious time as they worry about the safety and well-being of their animals. The barrage of loud explosions unpredictable scares pets and can cause panic attacks, depression and even phobias. Responsible pet owners should plan in advance.

It is now time to take steps to prepare your pet, especially as some of the most effective strategies need a few days to work. CEO of local pet Seapets specialist, Jerry Arnold gives his top tips to ensure your pet stays healthy and safe during the fireworks season:

  1. Before the season of fireworks, your pet into a new routine where they normally go outside at night start to put them in. Make a comfortable "den" in a warm part of the house away from windows and doors. A pet bed, blanket and favorite toy will encourage them to sleep and to provide a familiar place to retire.
  2. 3-4 weeks before Guy Fawkes, fit for your dog or cat with a collar Beaphar calm. It gradually releases a pacifying pheromone mimic those naturally produced by the mother for the comfort of their young, and it is shown to have the same effect in older animals .*
  3. Make your pets sleep, take your dog for a long afternoon walk than usual and play games with your cat. You can also eat a heavier dinner with a soothing natural food supplement, such as Eze Tablets Johnsons Calm to help soothe the nerves .*
  4. Remember to close all doors and windows, lock the door, and draw the curtains so that your pet can not escape the noise is reduced. You can also turn on the TV to muffle the sounds.
  5. If your pet does not Run For Cover to leave them alone - they are in search of safety. And if they show signs of fear as excessive barking and meowing or scratching, do not raise your voice to them that this should not disturb them further. Stay up to act normally and congratulate them when they are calm.
  6. Finally, do not forget your pets. Hutches animals move inside, cover with blankets, while ensuring adequate ventilation and provide bedding for them to dig it.
