Summary of the law: It is unlawful for a person to possess a wild animal. A wild animal is defined as all members of the cat family (except domestic cats) and all members of the dog family (except domestic dogs), all bears, all non-human primates , venomous reptiles, and crocodiles. A person who possesses a wild animal on the effective date of Act 1 January 2005, has 60 days to obtain a permit for the animal with the Department of Environmental Conservation.

Since it does not specify the koalas wallaroos, it might be possible. Check with your state DNR. If agreement with the state, always check with your county and local authorities, many counties and municipalities prohibit the possession of animals otherwise legal in the state.


Koalas are protected and can not be kept as pets:

You need to think seriously. Any sale of exotic animals (such as you suggested) online, the more likely is not very good reputation.

Otherwise, you must research the type of care these animals require, and if they do well with the climate in New York, as their natural habitat is very different from where you live. What is a vet? Is there a relative who would be able to treat your exotic pet?

Something a little less unusual might be a better way forward.
