Does anyone know anything about falconry? I watched the pet birds and I saw a goshawk called for the sale, research that led me to falconry. First I was wondering if it is legal in the United States, two in how everything would cost, and three where to get the stuff. If you can answer the three questions you can get the best answer.
Maintaining a goshawk as a pet is not legal. United States You must have special permission.
Your first falconry bird must be caught in the wild after you get your learner's permit. You can not buy your first bird. Goshawks may be retained as your first bird if you live in Alaska. In all others, you can keep and American Kesterel (generally not recommended because they are more fragile than other options) Redtail hawks and red shoulder hawks. Also, if you saw someone selling a goshawk as a pet, I would recommend their entry for fish and wildlife. Sale around falconers license or other appropriate permits with the birds is legal can be bought after reaching the level of falconry in general, but sell them as pets is not.
With costs much depends on what you already have (ie you to build a zone of alteration and meows or have you already structures are appropriate for that, with slight modifications) of your equipment very less stable base and the alteration zone is going to run several hundred dollars, but if you go more advanced, you can go into the thousands very quickly.
Many online vendors sell equipment falconry.
Only you can decide if you want to keep looking. You should contact your local falconry club and get information from them. My first recommendation would be to look at both the federal laws for falconry and your state laws for him as it varies from state to state. You must pass a written test and obtain a general or master falconer to accept a mentor before you can get your learner's permit, and you can not have a bird until you get your learner's permit
Falconry is much more complex than simply maintaining a pet bird. In most (if not all) states, it is highly regulated. You have to apprentice to a falconer known for a number of years before they can receive your own license. Caring for a falcon or hawk is much more difficult than other birds because they have very specific requirements. They are not domesticated, so you have to answer for their natural behavior, such as hunting.
I do not know exactly how much they cost, but the bird itself will probably be at least $ 1,000. Establishment of an outdoor aviary (called teams) is also expensive. There are also lots of accessories.
If you are interested in falconry, try to find a local club. The experienced falconers can help you decide if it's really something you want to do. They can also help you find the supplies, and if you're lucky you agree to advise you.
For the U.S., it is illegal to own a falcon. All birds of prey are the wild species are considered to be owned by the state where they are both. In my opinion, all birds of prey should be taken by wildlife and rehabilitaters trained.
