Kentucky Horseshoeing School was founded in 1978 and is located in Mount Eden Kentucky. This school is focused on understanding balanced shoeing through a combination of intense anatomy, physiology and biomechanical training. The purpose of the Kentucky Horseshoeing School is to produce the best farriers entry level in the country.

Students can choose from a variety of different course lengths depending on their needs and desires. The shortest path that is available is the course of two weeks of finishing. This course is designed for horse owners who want to be able to keep the feet of their own horse in the absence of a professional farrier. This course places a strong emphasis on the branch base and foot anatomy, functions of the foot, movement, problem identification and basic foot health. Students will learn how pasture trim, pull shoes, clogs level, from shoes and reapply when their farrier is not available.

The next course that is available is the course of eight weeks of basic farrier. This course is designed for homeowners who want to trim and shoe their own horses Sound. This course teaches students how to use and maintain tools farrier, trim and how to balance the hooves of a horse, how to shape and polish shoes readymade without the use of a forge. Some of the basic techniques of forging to be discussed are sitting hot forging footrests and drill holes in the skin of the plant.

The advanced program for sixteen weeks, is designed for people who want to acquire skills in trimming and shoeing horses hot. This course will focus on the use of factory-made shoes. In this course, students are introduced to promote more practical as a tool for construction and maintenance.

The twenty-two week course career track is designed to produce fully trained farriers entry level. It is a performance-based program designed for students who have high expectations for themselves. This course will take the student through a thorough study of anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, equine movement, and conformation. This program teaches students how to properly trim and shoe horses for a good balance of the foot and maintain the member. This course goes beyond the basic shoeing horses healthy with readymade shoes. The program teaches students how to build shoes and teach them all aspects of the racket corrective and therapeutic. In addition to learning how to use the tools of a blacksmith, students will learn to make a variety of different tools, including tools for forging. This will include both basic welding skills and farrier.

In addition to trimming and shoeing, students will also learn to diagnose and treat a variety of equine lameness by acquiring a solid foundation to help students sort fact from fiction in the field of farrier science. Students will also learn to read X-rays and communicate with owners and veterinarians to create the best treatment plan for each horse.

Once a student has completed twenty-two weeks of classes, they may choose to continue their studies by choosing to do an internship. The KHS Farrier Internship Program requires that each student maintain a minimum 80% average on all their practical work and writing. Each student is placed with a master farrier for a minimum of six months. Students must follow the program that is provided by KHS and progress of each student is monitored by KHS for the entire period of six months. Most courses offered are paid and many students who have successfully completed a training course were able to start their career farrier at the top of the pay scale.
