How can you get rid of the birds in your loft? We currently have nesting birds in our loft. Can anyone please advise of (human) ways of getting rid of them? Is it likely to be an expensive process?
Hi Shane
I also had this problem for several years running. The local council told me that birds are a protected species during the nesting season, so I could not do anything to get rid of them until the nest is completed.
The problem is they have not left after the nesting season and moved the whole year - I think it's hotter in my attic in the trees!
Eventually I found a local company which, while slow "smoked them" after they had finished nesting, using a non-toxic substance that interferes sufficiently to induce them to do, and then we immediately blocked the hole that 'they used to enter
They continued to try to get back in good time, however, you must make sure your loft is really sure.
The company I used was a general property maintenance company and they just charge their usual hourly rate plus the cost of the fabric of smoke (can not remember how many but not expensive). Apparently, they make a lot of this round here - and also for the squirrels!
Hope this helps.
Go into the loft with the lights well, moving in all areas. Intimidating birds and they will leave the same way they entered Have equipment ready to plug a hole in the / until you can do the appropriate remedy.
The first thing you have to do is find out where they get in. repair this area so they can not get .. inches, so you will not have to worry about this year or next.
I have the same problem, but the nesting season is almost finished so it's probably worth waiting for them to go and think "live and let live."

Fix where they come - often the expanding foam works.
