sulcata tortoise and Hermans tortoise Can be housed together? someone put a turtle sulcata tortoise and Hermans for sale, they are housed together, I want to buy them, but I'm not sure if they should be separated
Sulcata Hermans and should not be housed together because of the size difference especially sulcata are very large and could harm a Hermans, They both need similar conditions, but the sulcata can get to be a meter long and weigh up to £ 250, they are also turtles that need constant heat twelve months of the year, while adults need Hermans cooling in the winter to start brumata.
My sister has two and she has been informed by the tortoise trust people to separate them. Sulacatas need a constant high temperature and can not be possible to hibernate, while Hermans have to hibernate.
I think she told them separate because of parasites that are agreed for one species may seriously harm the other. Click on the link and see what the experts have to say ;-)
They may be couples
You should never house two different species. Each have different parasites and bacteria that could harm the other.
Mixture of species with different needs is not a good idea.
The research also PLEASE-sulcata before you get one. These guys are BIG when cared for, and holders of many taken by surprise!
For example, do you have a warm and moderately dry you can put a '3 long, £ 100 + turtle that needs a space of about 25'x25 'minimum in winter?
