What you need to set up a saltwater aquarium at home? I am determined to buy a couple clown fish and maybe some other tropical fish,
I know I need a tank and fish, and food
But what about filters, traffic, saltwater lighting or heating
I am a little confused can someone help me?
For a single fish marine aquarium:
A good book on saltwater aquariums and read anything you don'tunderstand research before buying a system
A good understanding of the nitrogen cycle
Supplies: I'll be here as usually many options. I have included a very general and the average cost of these supplies in U.S. dollars.
Aquarium/stand...55 gallon or more ... $ 400 - $ 500
Enlightenment .. with fish that probably a bulb .. actinic fit into the system of light that comes with your tank ... which will decide after reading your book.
Filtration .... There are many options, my advice is 405 Fluval, but there are other choices ... $ 250
Protien skimmer ... Once again many options ... Prizm skimmers is my choice ... $ 150 - $ 250
2.1 pumps 200 gallons per hour power head for circulation (optional )....$ 60
Jager heater for the aquarium size you choose. And a thermometer ....$ 50
sea salt for saltwater aquariums ....$ 50
A master test kit (pH, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, copper )...$ 50
hydrometer ... $ 12
substrate (.. 60 lbs live sand for a 55 gallons )...$ 75
Other decorations ... Bedrock decorations coral ...???
At this stage, do not try to confuse you further, but it would be desirable to have live rock, even in a single fish tank ... probably 45 pounds or so .....$ 125
Understand that this is a set up for the fish ... not efficient enough for invertebrates such as shrimp, crabs and corals.
After reading the book you buy, you are welcome to email me with other questions.
Good luck.
Much luck!
I had no success in the past to the present.
Good luck with it.
The one thing you need is
PATIENCE
you should go through an aquarium shop, when my husband and I decided we wanted to start a saltwater aquarium, we paid over $ 500.00 and that does not include the tank, we had (50 gal. ) or fish, or chemicals. eek, I'm not sure if it was an expensive shop, or not. but the man was very helpful and knew everything seemed better for a fish. Good luck
seawater tanks are expensive and difficult to maintain. If you make a mistake, you will lose your fish. Saltwater fish are verrrry expensive. My advice would be to make major studies first.
