The ultimate expression Since last month, I have a new appreciation of what it means to honor his personal style. Why? A friend and I went to see the exhibition at the Museum Iris Apfel Peabody Essex. Over the top does not begin to describe his style. Not at all! If you ever fear that your equipment is adjacent flamboyant, just take a look at his style and you can relax. At 88, she has just become a famous fashionista!
Iris Apfel is clearly not a wimp. It has been known to wear bracelets on the size of bowling balls - oh, they are balls sorry! And, given the size and weight of necklaces she wears, she must have the muscles of the neck and shoulders that rival a professional athlete! waders were her trademark - often in fabrics and colors outrageous. Overall, her outfits were more than typical dress uniforms daily.
A look at his style, and it is not surprising that it is a great believer in self-expression. I honor that belief and I applaud him for bringing to the forefront and walking about. It is also impressive to see that it is not a walking mannequin. She creates her own style and mixes and matches her own clothes. She likes to explore unusual sources for individuals "found" and is known for haute couture with flea market treasures two on a regular basis.
(A word of caution: Many of her outfits looked like an animal walking corpse. Unfortunately, she is clearly zero awareness of animal exploitation and suffering as a place surpassed the other when it comes to skins exotic animals and furs. Really horrible! The economy of grace is that it is almost 90 now and a lot of those suits date back decades. We can only hope she has more influence conscience and compassion when she dresses now. I can tell you from personal experience that self-expression can range from the elegant calm of outrageous and flamboyant (and gratuitous cruelty, at the same time!))
The point here is that when you are deeply and completely in touch with who you are your clothes becomes an extension of this. If you do not have to wear 1970s flashcubes bulbs used as your earrings or necklaces ten after making a statement, you can still use your wardrobe to express your own personal beauty and unique. As Iris said: "Never be caught or held too seriously." And my favorite, "Never worry about your age."
And let me add a word of wisdom of my own - never let anyone impose their idea of who you are on you. Personal exploration is great, the constraint is not. Stand out in your own delightful way. belongs!
