How to Clean a Guinea Pig Cage This review is for a cage of Guinea pigs, but the same advice can be used for other pet cages such as mice, rats, rabbits, hamsters, etc.. The mice are the worst pets to have to clean up after that (if I was told) they have no sphincter muscles on their little bladders, so they pee anywhere everywhere. Therefore (a) mice are unhealthy parasites if they are wild and infest your home (b) you can not housetrain mice. Rats, however, have enough intelligence to be housetrained. Some people have even managed to train pet rat to help clean the kitchen - they certainly have a very good job of getting rid of all crumbs.
Anyway, back to the cage of Guinea pigs. You'll need lots of old newspapers, some bedding, a scrubbing brush, hot soapy water and a shovel and shovel. Do not use soap for cleaning products to clean pet cages, because they can irritate skin and eyes of your pet. Use natural cleaning methods.
Start by removing animals from the cage. You do not like the way while you're cleaning. Put them in a safe place where they will not escape. Pets may be greater in a laundry basket, but smaller (mouse) may need to go to a ice cream container with holes in the lid.
Then, remove all old bedding and feces, using the shovel and shovel to collect as much as you can. This old compost soiled bedding is first class, so do not waste it! Also make sure you remove any uneaten or spoiled as well.
Now, rub the bottom of the cage using hot soapy water. It is easier to do with plastic cages thoroughly. wooden cages absorb a little more and smell of urine, so these may need to be turned on its side and let dry. However, if you clean a rabbit hutch or Guinea pigs made of wood and the legs, which is less a problem because the air below, to dry the wood.
Place a thick layer of old newspapers to the back of the cage once the bottom of the cage is dry. It will be the next household cleaning session much easier. Once you put this in place, put the litter Guinea pig down. You can now return to your animals in their cages.
You should also clean the dishes and water bowls or bottles. To do this, exactly the same way that you want to clean your dishes clean food and drinking vessels. Wash them by hand in hot soapy water, then rinse and dry completely. Alternatively, put them in the dishwasher, assuming they are dishwasher safe, and still ensure they are thoroughly dry before re-filling the dishes with fresh food.
Make sure you give your pets a hug after cleaning their cage. It is good for them and good for you.
