Like all kittens are born with folded ears, they are quite expensive. A pet quality Scottish Fold start around $ 800 and show quality kittens are thousands.
I agree with shelters to verify. They can only go as any other cat. The shelter I volunteer had two this year - one with folded ears and one without.
Remember to check the shelters! Many shelters will not even recognize them as something special, so you may be able to find one that has been put up for adoption.
