Where to buy sisal rope scratching post? I want to scratch my own post, but I'm not sure if I should go for the sisal rope. Where can I find?
Thank you!
When my husband was taking one of our cat trees, he bought the sisal rope at Lowes. Home Depot and Wal-Mart has also had. Lowe's was about $ 6.00 for 100 feet. I also wanted to add. It's a pita to get these things wrapped around the pole. Make sure you get a good grip to make it stick.
Edit: we used wood glue and Elmer a "caliper in a stapler to hold it. In fact, I had detailed instructions on how to make your own scratching posts and materials if you want me to take and send it via email. It was an article in my latest issue of Bengals Illustrated.
Just about any hardware store will take care of sisal rope suitable for that purpose - Lowes, Home Depot, etc.
I suppose you have some sort of wooden pole - maybe a 4 "x Post" 4.
Do not use glue, use screws.
If you have an electric drill and a little screwdriver for drilling screws are short apron, say 1 1 / 2 to 2 inches long, to attach the rope to the post.
Secure the base to the post from April to June saw three inches long apron. Sink these into the database a bit so that the leaders do not stand out and scrape the ground.
Start at the bottom with the rope. Put a screw in the end of the rope and thread it into the post, he sink so that the head is a bit in the string. You want tight.
Now start winding the rope around the pole, pulling as tight as possible and put a screw every 3 or 4 laps around the pole.
A helping hand may help here, someone to hold the ropes while turning the screw
When you reach the top, put another screw at the end of the rope.
If you wish, you can check the string and if it is loose anywhere, add a screw there.
This method allows a very safe position scratching.
I use a 4 x 4 post, a piece of particle board with laminate on it for the basis (I try to make cutouts of kitchen countertops that are made to mount a sink. These cuts are a good size which makes difficult for the cat to tip the mail during and laminate is easy to clean.
I center the 4 x 4 on the base and run 4-6 screws three inches long bridge across the base and in the post. Sink the screws a little below the surface of the base to avoid scratching the floor.
If you can get a small piece of plywood, to say no thicker than 1 / 2 inch screw on the top of the post for a platform for the cats to jump on.
All plywood thick 1 / 2 inch would be a bit too much weight to put on top and can make the position unstable.
I would try a place like Home Depot, Lowes. if not, see if a pet store would happen to have. Otherwise, you can try a craft store as well.
It would be easier to use a piece of sisal rugs, but finding a balance will be difficult.
You can buy in hardware stores, like Home Depot.
You can buy it at Wal-Mart, Lowe's, Home Depot, Ace or True Value
