Snake BreedersSnake farm: What You Should Know

When you have been treated successfully for snakes in captivity, you may find yourself interested in reproducing. This can be done, but it requires record keeping and attention to many details about the lives of snakes. The wine is usually in winter when the babies are born or hatched in the spring.

Breeding snakes requires feeding and for about four months, then put them in a cool state of hibernation. To do this, you first need to fatten them up, especially women, for several months in late summer, then lower the temperature a few weeks or months. The exact timing varies by species, as do the temperature requirements.

Just a quick word on determining the sex of a snake. This skill must be learned from an expert. It is a difficult process, sometimes requiring the use of a metal probe to find the male reproductive organ. Even the most experienced breeders of snakes make a mistake from time to time.

During hibernation, the snake is not powered, but it is provided fresh water. When time is up, the snake is gradually warmed, and well fed again for a while. Then, the male and female are placed together. If she resists, the separate and wait another week. If not, leave them together for a week or two.

A female snake, which grows in eggs is called "gravid. Some species of snakes eat well during this period and others do not. The length of time required varies even within the same species. Again, the amount heat delivered makes a difference. Most females will lay a bit before laying their eggs.

Some snakes give birth to children instead of laying eggs. The boas are examples. The hibernation requirements for tropical snakes are much smaller, amounting to only a fortnight with low night temperatures. Their needs are higher humidity, and they should be watered every day. With boas, you can add more than one male to the female speaker.

Pregnancy takes 4 to 10 months. The mother to be generally eaten well during this time, but you should choose foods smaller, since his body inside the space is more crowded. Make usually precedes the birth, but it can be as much as another month before the birth. The litter size can vary from 10 to less than 80 big, strong females.

In general, babies should snakes be removed and placed in separate containers with paper towels. The paper towels should be kept moist during the first two weeks. They will at that time, and can feed on pinkies or fuzzies (young mice) after delivery.

There may be a market for these young reptiles, and the process is certainly fascinating to the amateur. Remember, however, that there is a growing number of pet snakes being driven out of rescue shelters because owners simply can not handle any more. Be a responsible breeder of snakes, and make sure young snakes will not only be more victims.
