Synodontis Eupterus cat with large wounds help!? Hello everyone
I have two catfish Synodontis Eupterus that have been stored in a tank until I noticed a few small wounds on the small catfish him I quickly moved to a quarantine tank (I think it was caused by the aggression of the most-cats) and treated with "Stress Guard and anti fungal or bacterial remedy. He fortunately made a full recovery:)
But while he was in quarantine catfish others developed a large wound over two nights between her pelvic fins and anal fin. I moved into another quarantine tank and treated him the same as the first but the next day he had three more injuries around the base of the tail. injuries are progressively worse. the first wound is so deep in the tissues as bone and muscle can be seen.
I really like this fish and do not want him to die. but if it's too far to cure should I ask?
even with large wounds he eats normally and swimming, but her breathing is fast, which makes me think he is in great pain.
no other fish in the patient looks original tank, except for the clown loach colony, they get thin and not eating well.
if it makes a difference and the fish tank home are:
Clown loaches 5
A gold severum
1 Angel altum
4 striped rafael catfish
1 pleco
2 panchax striped
Is it possible he has a sort of flesh-eating bacteria? Why is it worse and not better with treatment?
Thank you for reading, any advice would be great!
In fact, I would not be surprised at all if Raphael Pleco were responsible. Both have very strong spines on their pectoral fins (the same spines that are notorious for getting caught in nets or poking holes in bags), they use as weapons if startled. A Syno attempts to bind in the same dark place that the other Catfish would certainly reason for doping.
EDIT: Melafix is one of many useless products sold to help heal the fish. It will not do much other than make the soapy water and feel a little mint. It is tree oil, which is best left on the shelves of a store. If you really feel the need to throw something in the tank, try a teaspoon of salt per 5 gallons. It will serve the same purpose Melafix is theoretically expected, but with much better results. Keep in mind, if you do not understand what causes injury, oil or any salt of a tree in the world will not fix the fish.
I have only dealt with a problem like this one with a osacar. It caused injury itself. But I do not think that is the reason for your problem. Try to find something that will help this type of injury Melafix or something.
I can probably help you a bit more if you can tell me what the sores look like. Are they clean or jagged in shape.
