How do I get my conure parrot sun to cease to act? My husband and I just bought our first Sun Conure. We both had budgies in the past but never a conure. We have studied and tried to learn as much as we can talk to them, but Im not sure how to deal with her recently to act. Every time we go out of his cage, she wants to be with us, but it bites terrible. She drew blood twice my husband already. We do not abuse it and loves to be with us, but it bites!
It may not be easy, but it can be fixed. How depends on why she bites. See http://www.silvio-co.com/cps/articles/19 ...
Do not let it out of the cage while. if you want to let her out, then prepare to bite
If your bird bites the hand, move towards him, and he will let go your hand approaches his body. If your bird bites another part of you, remove him immediately, using a towel if necessary.
Patterning Practice Routines
Pet birds can be taught good conduct and cooperation through redundant, happy, routines reasons. The reasons most frequently discussed routine for parrots is "step-up, which involves a man invites the bird to stand on a perch or hand. The bird learns what is expected by performing the intensification of the hand to hand, and hand-pole in hand or perch on command.
Security Practices, a neutral territory and be sure your hand approaches from below, toward the belly of your bird rather than the front. With regular practice, excellent verbal mastery of step-up "is always greeted with a little offhand. In fact, once your bird learns to associate pleasure interacting with the words" step-up, he'll probably start using these words when he wants to be picked up.
Companion parrots also need to learn to appreciate, enjoy, or at least tolerate towels. They learn by playing games like peek-a-boo "from behind a towel or" Find-the-toy. " The more you play, the more easily you'll be able to stimulate these interactions later. All this structure of cooperation when your bird is one, two, three, or five years, aims to prevent the development of non-cooperative or violent behavior later, when he reaches sexual maturity.
Distraction to prevent it from biting
If well calibrated once a bird is learning to bite, you want to re-configure the bird to a cooperative behavior. It is easier to stimulate the distractions of success if you can see a bite to come and respond before the bird takes a nip. Practice step-ups or other routines pleasant unknown territory can help change speed of your bird. The following are games other distraction that you can "play" with your bird:
The Wobble
This device may be used occasionally. If it is used frequently, it does not work and must be stopped. It's the best job just before the nip, but may also be used as the contact occurs. It does not work at all if you try to use it after the nip.
When pinched your bird is sitting on a pole to hand or hand-held, slowly oscillate or rotate the hand slightly so that your bird should be careful in order to regain his balance. Maintain eye contact and remind your bird is to "be a good bird" or "Be careful." Make sure your hand is completely correct - from below and slightly more feet near the where the leg joins the abdomen - where the calls for a step-up. This must be done carefully with a shy bird, so it does not fall or be afraid.
Good Hand / Bad Hand
The most common time for a nip or bite is when your bird is removed from a familiar perch or cage. Here's how to put an end to it.
