What kind of bird I could get a small wooden cage? My father bought a bird cage wood yesterday as decoration, but I know he really wants a real bird, so my mother and I are planning to make him one for his birthday is in two weeks. So I was wondering what kind of bird would be good for her. The cage is about 14x11 inches half and we expect to keep it outside (my backyard has a large roof so the bird would not get wet or even get affected by wind). Thank you for any help!
Hi Jessica,
Unfortunetely this cage is too small for a bird of happiness to live in. You can save a finch or canary in it (parakeets, etc. chewed wood), but it will probably live a life of boredom and torture every day for the rest of his life.
Finches may be small, but they need much horizontal space to fly. They are happier in aviaries. In addition, like most birds, they are very social (perhaps even more than humans) and keep close to them is cruel. They need to be with a friend Finch of the same species.
If you really need a bird cage, at the very least, you should leave birds in a room safe in the house once a day to fly (for exercise and mind stimulation). You should also not one house (however, canaries seem to be an exeption, you can keep a canary only because they are solitary animals, but there is debate about this).
Remember that birds are messy too, and a wooden cage is not designed for real birds can be harder to clean than a different cage. But this can be done.
Regarding food, food made from grains or granules (or both) with fruit and veges every day (which is important, seed alone is unhealthy and the bird will eventually die of malnutrition) .
The cage must have at least two poles on each side (never a pole) for the bird to fly backwards (if it needs only to jump back, it'sa sign of the cage is too small).
I hope this helps. There may be alternatives to get a real bird in the cage like a beautiful decoritive. Or if you're interested in birds, you can get beautiful inside small (and outside) cages that look like pieces of furniture. Like these:

(You can even create one yourself with an old wardrobe)
Good luck! :)
Well, I used 2 HAV Birds really small, but it was eaten by a stray cat and flew to the other (and I do wat kinda bird it is. It's called zebra finch . there is color is light brown and they HAV small welts on them:]
Finch
all types of finches or canaries would be fine in a wooden cage since they cannot bite through it
just do not get something strong that bust through it, because all birds biting the bars to ensure that its pretty hard
and you will need to bring the bird inside and let it out of the cage from time to time
also, make sure its not treated wood, because it would be a poison for the birds
why do not you just get a real cage for the bird, because very little wood is not so pretty after birdie poop everywhere, if you do not mind that he destroyed so go there but if you like the cage is then to get another bird.
I hope I helped =]
The cage is just over a foot long! I wouldnt put any living thing in that, let alone one that flies.
hopefully, no? What birds build nests? ? Wood Maby?, I love word (not even affected by the wind) you try doin tha.
